What you get

What Campaign Management and Counsel Delivers

From campaign infrastructure to major gift strategy, we provide the guidance and support your team needs at every phase.

A Built-Out Campaign Infrastructure

A successful campaign doesn't run on enthusiasm alone. We help build the systems, documents, and processes your campaign requires: your Prospect Matrix, Case for Support, silent phase roadmap, and volunteer structure.

A Case for Support That Moves People to Give

We develop a compelling, organizationally grounded Case for Support that articulates your mission's urgency, your campaign's purpose, and the impact of every gift.

A Prospect Strategy That Prioritizes the Right Relationships

We help you identify and prioritize the prospects most likely to make leadership gifts—building a clear strategy to generate early momentum for your campaign.

Staff and Volunteers Ready to Make the Ask

Covenant does not solicit gifts on your behalf. Instead, we guide your prospect strategy and prepare your team to have those conversations with confidence, so the relationships you build belong to your organization long after the campaign ends.

The Fundraising Campaign Phases We Support

  1. Planning Phase

We build the infrastructure your campaign requires before the first major ask: staffing structure, volunteer committees, prospect strategy, and core campaign materials.

  2. Silent Phase

We guide your team in quietly raising 50% or more of your goal before any public announcement, securing the leadership gifts that set the tone for everything that follows.

  3. Pre-Public Phase

We help you refine your messaging, finalize your materials, and prepare your board and volunteers for the transition to a public campaign.

  4. Public Phase

With infrastructure in place and momentum built, we support your team as you engage your broader donor community and close in on your campaign goal.

  5. Celebration and Close

We help you bring the campaign to a strong finish, meaningfully recognize your donors, and position your organization well for what comes next.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How the Engagement Works

Campaign Management and Counsel looks different for every organization. Some clients need near full-time strategic support in the early months; others benefit from regular advisory counsel as their internal team leads execution. Covenant scales to fit your capacity and budget.

Campaigns typically span one to five years, with the highest level of Covenant involvement in the first six months. Throughout the engagement, you'll have a consistent point of contact and direct access to senior-level expertise.

  • What we lead

Campaign strategy, prospect prioritization, Case for Support development, and phase planning.

  • What we support your team to do

Making donor asks, managing volunteer relationships, and executing day-to-day campaign activity.

What Nonprofits Say About Working With Covenant Philanthropic Solutions

Proven results. Trusted partnerships.

“There are no other words that better describe Claudia Looney’s skills as a fundraiser… She is a Superstar. During my time working with Claudia at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, we raised over $1 billion to build a new hospital and support various programs. She is strategic in her thinking and can translate strategy into executable plans for success.”

“Claudia and I became good friends and close colleagues several years ago as the Autry Museum of the American West prepared to embark on a large capital campaign. I quickly learned that Claudia was a great thought partner when it came to all things fundraising. She understands what it takes to run an effective development department, as well as a successful major gift campaign. Her leadership had a positive and lasting impact on our entire organization.”

Success Stories

Campaign Management and Counsel in Action

Strategic guidance. Measurable results.

Maintaining Campaign Momentum Through a Leadership Gap

When Laura’s House lost its CDO weeks before a major event and mid-campaign, Covenant stepped in as both interim development leadership and Campaign Counsel. Annual fundraising goals were met, event revenue hit record highs, and the campaign neared completion with several lead gifts closed during the counsel period.

Building the Foundation to Double Community Impact

Following a comprehensive pre-campaign planning study the San Diego Food Bank strengthened its fundraising infrastructure and launched a major gifts campaign with Covenant’s continued support, building on a foundation of strategic recommendations and a well-defined campaign roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Campaign Management and Campaign Counsel?

Campaign Management involves a deeper, more hands-on level of engagement, often including embedded or fractional staffing support. Campaign Counsel is a more advisory role, providing strategic guidance while your internal team leads execution. Many engagements combine elements of both, and we’ll recommend the right structure based on your capacity and goals.

Does Covenant make fundraising asks on our behalf?

No. For legal and relationship reasons, Covenant does not solicit gifts directly. Instead, we train and prepare your board, staff, and volunteers to confidently make those asks. The donor relationships you build stay with your organization.

How long does a fundraising campaign typically take?

Campaigns typically run one to five years depending on the size of the goal, the pace of your silent phase, and your donor landscape. Covenant is most intensively involved in the early months, with support continuing as needed through each phase.

How much will this require from our leadership?

Campaign success requires genuine leadership commitment, particularly in the silent phase when board members and executives play a critical role in cultivating major donors. We’ll help you understand what’s needed at each stage and make the most of your team’s time.

What if we don't reach our full campaign fundraising goal?

Most campaigns reach or exceed their goals when they follow a disciplined process. If headwinds emerge, we’ll work with your team to assess options, whether that means extending the timeline, adjusting the goal, or restructuring the public phase.

Can we bring Covenant in mid-campaign?

Yes. Organizations sometimes engage Covenant after a campaign has started but lost momentum or is approaching a critical phase. We assess where things stand, identify gaps, and develop a plan to move forward.

What types of fundraising efforts does Covenant support?

Covenant supports everything from targeted major gift initiatives to large-scale, multi-year campaigns. Each engagement is designed around your organization’s goals, capacity, and the level of structure needed to succeed.
